Actinomycin D inhibition of the zinc-induced formation of cytochrome c in Ustilago.
نویسندگان
چکیده
As reported earlier by Grimm & Allen, the addition of zinc to the sporidia of the smut fungus, Ustilago sphaerogena, evokes the formation of large amounts of cytochrome c. This occurs under conditions where the rates of increase of dry weight, RNA, and DNA remain unaffected. Actinomycin D added with zinc specifically abolishes the formation of cytochrome c. The system behaves as if cytochrome c were formed de novo.

Involvement of Cytochrome P-450 in n-Butyl Nitrite-Induced Hepatocyte Cytotoxicity
Addition of n-butyl nitrite to isolated rat hepatocytes caused an immediate glutathione depletion followed by an inhibition of mitochondrial respiration, inhi- bition of glycolysis and ATP depletion. At cytotoxic butyl nitrite concentrations, lipid peroxidation occurred before the plasma membrane was disrupted. Cytochrome P-450 inhibitors inhibited peroxynitrite formation and prev...
متن کاملMinocycline blocks c-terminal fragments of amyloid precursor protein-induced neurotoxicity by inhibition of cytochrome c release and caspase-12 activation
Minocycline is a second-generation tetracycline that effectively crosses the blood-brain barrier. It has remarkable neuroprotective qualities in models of cerebral ischaemia, traumatic brain injury, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases. However, there is no evidence about neuroprotective effects of minocycline on AD. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized neurop...

متن کاملPromotion by Zinc of the Formation of Cytochromes in Ustilago sphaerogena.
Ustilago sphaerogena is a smut fungus which is parasitic on the grass Echinochloa crus-galli but may be cultured saprophytically in the sporidial stage of its life cycle. The form, rate of growth, and color of the sporidia were found (29) to be dependent upon the medium in which the fungus is grown. In a medium containing 2 % yeast extract and 2 % sucrose, large, rapidly growing pink sporidia w...
متن کاملHuman chorionic gonadotropin attenuates amyloid-β plaques induced by streptozotocin in the rat brain by affecting cytochrome c-ir neuron density
Objective(s): Amyloid β plaques, in Alzheimer’s disease, are deposits in different areas of the brain such as prefrontal cortex, molecular layer of the cerebellum, and the hippocampal formation. Amyloid β aggregates lead to the release of cytochrome c and finally neuronal cell death in brain tissue. hCG has critical roles in brain development, neuron differentiation, and function. Therefore, we...
